Direct Notice to Children

Welcome to Community Grown Heroes. Before you tell us your name or give us your email or any other information, we need to tell you a few things. If you are under the age of 13, one of your parents or a guardian must agree to you giving us your name, email or any other personal information.  If you want to participate in any of our programs or register for an account, one of your parents or a guardian needs to fill out a consent form, so please ask one of them to read this web page.

Direct Notice to Parents and Guardians

It is Community Grown Heroes intention to follow and adhere to the Children’s Online Privacy and Protection Act (COPPA). This notice describes our practices of collecting, using, and disclosing personal information from children under the age of 13. Our policies are described below. We suggest that you, the parent or guardian, review our full general Privacy Policy. If you have any questions about these policies, you can contact us by email [email protected] or by using the Contact Us form. For more details and information about COPPA and your child’s rights to online privacy, visit https://www.ftc.gov/legal-library/browse/rules/childrens-online-privacy-protection-rule-coppa

Parental Consent Required

Community Grown Heroes wishes to collect personal information from/about your child, but we need your consent before we collect, use, or disclose the information. You can find our Guardian Consent form here https://communitygrownheroes.com/guardian-consent/

Information We Collect

Personal Information

Your child can browse Community Grown Heroes website, view content, and obtain information without any personal information being collected. Community Grown Heroes collects limited personal information and requires you, the Parent or Guardian to provide the personal information directly to us on the consent form. Generally, we only collect your child’s name, age and when required, an email address.

We have chosen to adopt this privacy and confidentiality policy so children can participate in our programs without providing unnecessary personal information. We do not require a user, regardless of age, to disclose more information than is reasonably necessary to participate in an activity as a condition of participation.

We also allow a parent or guardian to review their child’s personal information, request to have it deleted, and refuse to allow any further collection or use of their child’s information. (See below for further instructions.)

Non-Personal Information

We may also collect what is known as non-personally identifiable information. For example, we may collect certain non-personally identifiable information when your child participates/uses our online programs, such as your child’s favorite color and/or favorite food.

How We Collect the Information

In addition to the information that you or your child may provide us directly, we may collect some non-personal information indirectly. “Cookies” are text files that a site or its service provider transfers to your computer’s hard drive through your web browser that enables the sites or service providers systems to recognize your browser and capture and remember certain information. We may use cookies to compile aggregate data about site traffic and site interactions so that we can offer better site experiences and tools in the future.

Community Grown Heroes provides you with the opportunity to see and choose which cookies are used upon each visit to our website by clicking on “Manage Cookie Preferences” in the bottom right corner of the footer on every page.

If you prefer, you can choose to have your computer warn you each time a cookie is being sent, or you can choose to turn off all cookies via your browser settings. Like most websites, if you turn your cookies off, some features and/or services may not function properly.

How We Use the Information

We use the personal information submitted to operate, maintain, and provide your child the features and functionality of the Service, including, in some instances, disclosure of your child’s name to identify your child’s membership status on our website. If you or your child proves an email address, it will only be used to send information and updates pertaining to the membership.

Community Grown Heroes may use certain information about your child without identifying your child as an individual to third parties. We do this for purposes such as analyzing how the Service is used, diagnosing service or technical problems, and maintaining security.

Disclosure of the Information

Except where required to identify your child’s membership on our website, Community Grown Heroes does not sell, trade, disclose or otherwise transfer your child’s personal information to outside parties. This does not include trusted third parties who assist us in operating our website, conducting our business, or servicing your child, so long as those parties agree to keep this information confidential. We may also release your information when we believe release is appropriate to comply with the law, enforce our site policies, or protect ours or others’ rights, property, or safety.

Parental/Guardian Consent

As noted above, we need your consent before we permit your under 13 year old child to use our Service. At registration, if the parent or guardian are not the person registering, we will require each child under the age of 13 (thirteen) to confirm their parent or guardian has read this policy and provide a contact email address for the parent or guardian. Community Grown Heroes will then send the parent or guardian an email when their child registers and we will provide the parent or guardian 48 hours to refuse their child’s registration. If the parent or guardian refuses to allow the child’s registration, we will delete the child’s information from our database.

New Consent If Change in This Policy

We may amend this privacy policy at any time. We will provide parents notice by email of any material changes in the way we intend to collect, use, or disclose your child’s personal information. Please note that, at all times, parents should update their personal information to provide us current and up to date email addresses and phone numbers if provided. We will apply material changes to this policy only in compliance with applicable law, including any applicable provisions of COPPA that require parent or guardian consent.

Account Revisions

You may review, correct, update, or delete your child’s personal information that has been provided to us at any time. To do this, you can email us at [email protected] or use the Contact Us form and we will contact you about reviewing, editing or deleting your child’s information.

Revoking and Deleting Your Consent

At any time, you may revoke your consent, refuse to allow us to further use or collect your child’s personal information, and direct us to delete the information. If you revoke your consent, we will no longer permit your child to participate in certain activities or use certain services on Community Grown Heroes. Certain activities on Community Grown Heroes may not require your child’s personal information and your child will continue to have access to such activities. If you choose to delete your child’s information, Community Grown Heroes will not use the information for any purpose except where required by applicable laws, regulations, or standards.
